Your Efforts + God's Power = Success!

Today, as we studied 1 Nephi 18, we learned about Nephi’s righteous example during his time of trial. In spite of the hardships that Nephi and his family faced, they eventually reached the promised land.  As we seek the Lord’s direction and work diligently to follow it, we too can successfully complete the journey the Lord has sent us to earth to experience.

Elder Clayton counseled us:

“No matter the burdens we face in life as a consequence of natural conditions, the misconduct of others, or our own mistakes and shortcomings, we are all children of a loving Heavenly Father, who sent us to earth as part of His eternal plan for our growth and progress. Our unique individual experiences can help us prepare to return to Him. … We must do everything we can to bear our burdens ‘well’ [see D&C 121:7–8]. …

“… I know that as we keep the commandments of God and our covenants, He helps us with our burdens. He strengthens us. When we repent, He forgives us and blesses us with peace of conscience and joy” (“That Your Burdens May Be Light,” 13–14).

Please take the time to view the followup story to the one we watched today in class.  This is the story of Sterling and Christian Wyatt who were both born with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a crippling chronic disease. Despite their challenges, the young men each desired to serve a full-time mission. This is how their prayers and efforts matched with the Power of God enabled them to accomplish the things that the Lord commands despite great obstacles.
